The Benefits of Adult Colouring
Adult colouring sheets support wellbeing by promoting mindfulness, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving focus through a calming, repetitive activity. The process calms the brain's fear centre, stimulates creativity, and provides a screen-free escape, which can enhance mood and sleep. Colouring also serves as a form of self-soothing, distraction from negative thoughts, and can even be a social activity.
How Colouring Supports Wellbeing
Mindfulness and Focus:
The act of colouring requires focused attention on the present moment, helping to quiet the mind and reduce the impact of worries and negative thoughts.
Stress and Anxiety Reduction:
Colouring calms the stress-response areas of the brain, and studies have shown it can lower anxiety and depressive symptoms.
Emotional Regulation:
The rhythmic motion of colouring can have a soothing effect, helping to regulate emotions and promote a sense of inner calm.
Stimulates Creativity and Imagination:
Colouring encourages self-expression and can stimulate imagination, allowing you to explore colours and patterns without pressure.
A Break from Screens:
Engaging in adult colouring provides a screen-free activity, reducing blue light exposure that can disrupt sleep, and offering a restful alternative to phones and TVs.
Aids in Sleep:
By providing a relaxing, screen-free activity before bedtime, colouring can help you unwind and improve your sleep quality.
Provides Distraction:
It acts as a healthy distraction from negative thoughts, worries, and overwhelming feelings, offering a creative escape.
Social Connection:
Adult colouring can be a social activity, with groups and clubs forming, making it a fun way to connect with others.
Self-Soothing and Coping:
Colouring helps individuals learn to self-soothe and cope with difficult experiences and trauma by providing a sense of control and calm.
Staff Rewards
We like our staff to feel valued. We have options for staff to obtain 'Employee of the Month' and 'Room of the Term'. A member of staff is chosen every month to receive this award; they receive a certificate and a £25 gift card. Room of the Term is given out termly, the Senior Lead who is responsible for maintaining provision and high-quality activities receives a £25 gift card to reward their efforts. We announce these on our Famly app so all our parents can see, and we write a short paragraph letting everyone know why they have received the reward. Our parents often comment, congratulating our staff, which is a great morale and confidence boost for them.
